Computer Classes

Basic computer classes for adults are available at  Bradford County in November/December.   Classes in January will be held in Union County.

Starting on Monday, November 29 basic computer classes are offered.  Both morning and evening classes are available.

Classes are basic, hands on and designed for adults with little or no computer experience. Registration is required and seating is limited.

We've also added a two part  basic Excel class on Monday evenings. Students in the Excel class should have some computer experience.  Registration is required.

Basic computer classes for adult users start on October 5 at Union Co. Public Library.

Basic classes are designed for adult users with little or no computer experience.   Daytime basic classes run from 10-12noon on each Tuesday in October.

Basic classes on Tuesday evenings run from 5:45-7:45pm.  See the full schedule here. 

Basic excel is offered on October 26.  Users for the excel class should have some computer knowledge.

   These basic classes are designed for adults who have little or no computer experience.

Are you looking for a job? In this economy many people are.  Libraries can help you get ready to rejoin the workforce.

If it's been awhile since you applied for a job, or interviewed for one, take a look at Learning Express.  You can use this service in the library or from home. (It is one of several subscription online services that the libraries subscribe to for your benefit.) You set up an account, using your library barcode number, and your own PIN. You can log in and save your work and return to it later.

There are many practice tests on many subjects for both children and adults. One section of particular interest to job seekers is Job Search and Workplace Skills. Included is information on improving writing and communications skills, resume and interviewing tips. Good information whether you are new or already in the workforce.

The libraries offer classes on using Learning Express as well as basic computer classes for adults.  In March classes are held in Bradford County, classes in April in Union County, and in May in Baker County (Emily Taber Public Library.)

In the U.S., New Year's Day is becoming a time to relax and recover from the previous holidays. Morning hours can include watching the spectacular Rose Bowl Parade on television and later seeing the game.

Americans generally ignore the good luck shenanigans that are popular in other countries. But a large percentage of us still think we can cook and eat our way to a prosperous new year.

Corned beef and cabbage is one lucky choice because cabbage leaves signify money in this and other cultures. Many people think pork should be included in the New Year's meal. For hundreds of years, the hog has signified prosperity. Black-eyed peas, hog jowls or ham are lucky foods in some areas as is rice.

Making New Year's resolutions is an admirable New Year's Day activity. One to include this year are more visits and use of your public library.

The new year brings another series of programs for adults at libraries in the three county area.

Basic computer classes for adults conclude in Union County this week with a class on Basic MSWord. Classes will resume in Union County in January.

Classes will start in Baker County at Emily Taber Public Library on October 28 and continue through November 18. You can register for basic skills classes at the library or online.

New this time are classes using Learning Express. Learning Express is a computer program to assist you in preparation for tests or refreshing job search skills. We're focusing on adults who would like assistance in brushing up on your job search skills--basic math, reading and writing. We'll help you get started.

We continue to offer assistance with e-government questions. If you have to fill out government forms online--such as DCF, unemployment or other government benefits, we'll help you get started.

Computer, Learning Express,and e-government assistance will be available at Bradford Co. Public Library in December.

Union Co. Public Library and New River Public Library Cooperative have hosted a series of computer classes for adults. This is a photo of some of our evening class and instructor. We also have classes in the morning

Computer classes

Do you or someone you know need help in learning to use your computer? Or do you want to be able to use the library computers better? We can help.

Each year Union Co. Public Library and New River Public Library Cooperative offer a series of basic computer classes. Classes will start on Tuesday, January 29. We're offering classes on Tuesday morning and evening.

Each class lasts about two hours and is taught by one of our staff. Instructors are experienced computer users and teachers. Past classes have been positively evaluated by students taking the class.

Classes are for students 14 years and older and are open to residents of Baker, Bradford and Union Counties. We offer Basic Computer, Basic Internet, Basic Email, and Basic Word. There will be one class of Basic Excel.

Classes are small, usually only one student to a computer. There is time for hands-on practice. There is no charge for classes. Several years ago we were able to purchase the equipment we use with a federal grant.
